The Structural Shops are omprised of four service groups:
Carpenters, Painters, Glaziers, and Roofers.
All work associated with carpentry is performed by this shop. This includes: building cabinets, installing floors, putting up partition walls, ceiling and furniture repairs, servicing doors and hardware, repairing and/or replacing doors and frames, and performing minor remodeling.
The Paint Shop is responsible for new and recurring exterior and interior painting projects, and specializes in special coating and texture. Our painters provide general maintenance on campus crosswalks, light poles, street painting and parking lots. The shop also performs line striping; cabinetry and furniture refinishing; cleaning and repair of Venetian blinds, shades and video screens; and graffiti removal.
The glaziers repairs broken windows, prepare emergency enclosures, install/repair window screens, and install new mirrors and polycarbonate materials, such as Plexiglas and Lexan.
This unit's work includes providing quick response to roof leaks from mid-October through March, and performing permanent roof repairs and replacements from April through September. Work is performed on all types of roofs for the UC Berkeley campus and off-campus buildings, including housing units. The services provided by the roofing unit include:
- Installing and repairing shingle, PVC roofing, composition, shakes, and tile metal.
- Emergency response (water leaks, roof leaks, skylights, gutter cleanout).
- General maintenance of exterior/below grade waterproofing, preventative maintenance, and inspection.
- Roof inspections.
- Professional consultation for capital projects.

The FS Lock Shop is responsible for engineering key systems for all new construction and remodels. The Lock Shop provides a variety of other services including: door re-keying, repair of existing hardware, installation of handicap operators, and lock installation. UCPD approves all requests for re-keys, key cutting and re-cuts prior to the order coming to the Lockshop. All newly cut keys are delivered to UCPD for distribution. More information about requests keys from UCPD can be found at http://police.berkeley.edu/programsandservices/CACP/request.html
Our locksmiths are security professionals; in addition to repairing and maintaining locking mechanisms for all campus buildings, they are ready to assist with ADA (Americans with Disabilites Act) issues and Fire/Life Safety as applied to doors and hardware.
