Underhill Playing Field is being renovated to allow it to serve as the home for Cal Women’s Field Hockey team. The project includes expanding and re-grading the field, installing artificial turf appropriate for field hockey (it can also be used by some other sports), modest renovation of the plaza on College Ave, and installation of a system to capture groundwater for use on the field as required by field hockey. Once the renovation is complete, the field will continue to serve as a play and competition field for campus club teams as well as intramural sports and recreation.
Construction is scheduled to take place weekdays from 7am – 5pm. Any noise-generating work on weekends would start after 9am. The north lane of Haste Street adjunct to Underhill will remain closed to allow for construction access through mid-August; the street and parking lane will be reopened in time for move-in for the Fall semester.
The project team expects intermittent, short-term impacts to parking in the Underhill structure. They will minimize them as much as possible and are working with campus Parking & Transportation to make sure signage and detours clear.
Questions or concerns about the construction should be directed to Christine Shaff, UC Berkeley Real Estate, at 643-4793 or firstname.lastname@example.org
