A Zero Waste event requires all materials generated at the venue to be reused, recycled, or composted.

Funded by The Green Initiative Fund, the Zero Waste Event project was created to assist all events at UC Berkeley in acheiving zero waste. To accomplish this, Cal Zero Waste created an official zero waste certification checklist for both event caterers and facilities as linked below.

The checklists are designed to guide and educate caterers and facility managers on how to successfully make their events zero waste. They cover each aspect of running an officailly sanctioned Zero Waste event from using reusable dining ware, BPI certified compostable products, or recyclable materials to ensuring that the appropriate recycling and composting receptacles are available at the event.

For more information on different kinds of environmentally preferred products and where to purchase them, please refer to the educational product list below.
